Eminent nuke scientist BD Chowdhury passes away

Born in 1917, Chowdhury studied in BHU, Allahabad University and did his PhD from the University of California.

Eminent nuclear scientist and former vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University BD Nag Chowdhury died of cerebral attack at his residence on Sunday.

Chowdhury, 89, is survived by his wife and son Dipankar Nag Chowdhury.

His wife Dipali, a famous classical song exponent, said that Chowdhury died at 3.00 am on Sunday and was cremated at the Keoratala crematorium.

Born in 1917, Chowdhury studied in Benaras Hindu University, Allahabad University and did his PhD from the University of California.

Nag Chowdhury worked under Meghnad Saha, the legendary nuclear physicist, and did research on various subjects and taught at a number of renowned institutes and universities worldwide. He was the vice-chancellor of JNU, Delhi from 1974 to 1978.

A Padmavibhusan awardee, the eminent scientist also wrote several books.
