Congress leader and former Kerala minister PP George died at his residence at Puthukkad near Thrissur on Saturday morning. He was 73. He was ailing for sometime.

George was agriculture minister in the ministry led by K Karunakaran from 1991 to 1995. He was a staunch supporter and a close aide of Karunakaran in the party. However, he parted ways with him when Karunakaran quit the Congress to form the Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran (DIC-K) in 2005. George chose to remain with the Congress.

A Member of the Legislative Assembly for five times, George was first elected to the assembly in 1965 from Chalakkudy constituency in Thrissur district.
Thrissur is 60 km north from Kochi.
