Mawlong was also ousted from power after alliance partners BJP and NCP pulled out following a scandal over the construction of the Meghalaya House in Kolkata.
However, the Guwahati High Court later cleared his name from the scandal.
Mawlong is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters.
