The women, aged 28 and 34, were travelling by taxi when the five men waylaid them, saying they were crime branch officers from the anti-narcotics cell. They asked the women to accompany them to the resort where the gang rape was committed.

“The accused asked the girls to pay Rs 1.50 lakh or else they would be booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,” said superintendent of police (crime branch) Kartik Kashyap.

According to the police, the men also assaulted the women and robbed the taxi driver of his phone and ATM card, using which they withdrew Rs 10,000. At the resort, they told the driver to leave without his taxi and come back with Rs 1.50 lakh.

After the women's medical examination, a case of rape, assault, abduction and dacoity was registered.
