Trinamool Congress general secretary and former railway minister Mukul Roy, summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the multi-crore chit fund scam, on Wednesday reiterated that he had done nothing unethical in his life.
“I will initiate communication with CBI and tell them when I will visit them. I will also talk with my party leadership. I still maintain that I am not involved in any wrong doing,” Roy said after arriving in Kolkata from Delhi.
Roy, considered No. 2 in Trinamool ranks, is to appear before the investigative agency on Thursday to be questioned in connection with the Saradha scam.
Roy had admitted publicly that he did meet Sudipta Sen on two occasions. The party is jittery after Madan Mitra’s arrest and if Roy too is arrested, it might trigger long-term changes in party’s political discourse.
Political circles were abuzz with the development as speculation was rife that party chief Mamata Banerjee was next in line of the CBI’s questioning.
“It is clear to all that Roy is involved in the chit fund scam as well as the fact that Mamata Banerjee is next in CBI’s radar,” said Sujan Chakraborty, CPI(M) state secretariat member.
