While addressing a gathering of people during the stone laying ceremony of a girls degree college to be constructed by Lucknow Municipal Corporation in Ismailganj, the outspoken minister said the Governor had to pass the Jauhar University Bill due to the upcoming elections.

The minister said the civic bodies polls would be held on scheduled. “We are not going to change the programme,” he said. He flayed former urban development minister for misusing crores of rupees in the name of cleaning the river Gomti. He said a CBI inquiry would soon be ordered into the matter.

Azam said a probe would be conducted to find out why the construction of the degree college in Ismailganj was delayed despite the fact that Rs 1.32-cr fund for the same was released in February 2005. The officials responsible for the delay would be adequately punished, he said.

Azam came down heavily on the people who had encroached LMC land in the area. He branded LMC officials impotent because they were unable to clear encroachments from the area.

Senior SP leader Bhagwati Singh, MP, who was also present on the occasion, assured all help for the girls college.
