Jharkhand: Maoist leader arrested in Palamu; pistol, ammunition seized

A Maoist leader, carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, was arrested at Thekhi village in Pandu area of Palamu district on Thursday, police said.

A pistol and three rounds of ammunition were seized from the possession of CPI (Maoist) sub-zonal commander Jagnarayan Yadav aka Vishalji, wanted in 10 cases of extremist violence in Jharkhand.

“This is a prize catch for us. He had confessed to his involvement in many Maoist-related incidents,” said Mayur Patel, Palamu superintendent of police.

“Many more cases are likely to pending against him as his operation area also included Gaya district of Bihar.”

Jagnarayan Yadav (32), hailing from Jangwal village in Chhatterpur area of Palamu district, said he had joined the CPI (Maoist) 14 years ago after a dispute with family members over a piece of land, police said.
