JP not to contest from Goa

The Janata Party, led by Vijay Mallaya on Wednesday announced its decision not to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls from Goa.

The Janata Party, led by Vijay Mallaya today announced its decision not to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls from Goa, citing "paucity of time" and said it would instead work at the grassroot level to present itself as a `secular alternative' for assembly elections.

In a release issued here today, the party state President Trajano D'mello charged BJP and Congress of "exploiting religious sentiments" to garner votes and said his party would not "be the devil's agent in this game."

Earlier, the party had expressed its support to the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.
