Another green brigade has laid siege to Kargil. This time the enemies are not from the Western frontier but from dragon land.
What started as a small intrusion in the Zanskar area in Ladakh has taken the shape of an all-time invasion. Chinese grasshoppers are chomping away large chunks of agricultural land in this area.
If these are not culled soon, they pose a threat to states like Punjab and Haryana.
When Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was on a day-long tour to Kargil to assess the flood situation on Thursday, he was apprised of an unlikely army. Chinese grasshoppers were threatening farmers in the upper reaches.
Locals were flummoxed, as they have never come across this unique variety of crop-eating insects.
The green menace had settled in Zanskar last year and have been quietly spreading their tentacles to other regions of the state.
The CM called the menace "alarming" and has asked the department of agriculture production to find a solution to the problem.
Azad has also promised to take up the issue with the Union government if his officials couldn't control it.
What has added to the woes of officials is that the grasshoppers are multiplying by the minute and their population has by now shot up to trillions.

{{/usCountry}}So big is the threat perception that locals have told the chief minister that they had managed to push back Pakistani intruders during the kargil war in 1999 but have no weapons to fight against this new breed of green aliens.
