Delhi police crime branch is probing the role of two employees of GMR Energy Limited for their alleged link with some multi-tasking staff (MTS) involved in stealing/leaking “classified documents” from the offices of oil, coal, power and three other ministries.
With this GMR Energy Limited of GMR Group has become the sixth power and energy firm which has been linked in the alleged corporate espionage case being probed by the crime branch.
An email sent to senior GMR Energy officials by HT for their reaction on the issue went unanswered.
Meanwhile, investigators are looking for the owner of Noida-based energy consultancy firm Infraline Energy who is at large after Lokesh Sharma, senior executive of her company, was arrested. Police sources said the consultancy firm has about 200 employees, but most of them have gone underground.
On Monday, Rajbir Singh of GMR Energy, was questioned in Delhi for his alleged link with a peon at petroleum ministry who is suspected of stealing confidential documents from the ministry.
The peon Bhupinder Kumar was also quizzed along with Singh, though they were not arrested till late evening in absence of strong evidence against them. Nine multi-tasking employees working at the offices of different ministries at Shastri Bhawan and Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) have been detained and questioned in connection with the leakgate scam.

Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi said, “GMR employee Rajbir Singh has been called for questioning and we are still in talks with other people. A couple of them are on the run and efforts are on to nab them. Those who ran away are primarily members of consulting companies. We have not questioned CEOs of any company so far.”
Scrutiny of documents revealed that Sharma was possessing cabinet secretary’s note and coal ministry documents on total production per block, police sources said.
