A college lecturer tried to commit suicide after three teachers from government primary schools allegedly blackmailed her by threatening to circulate her nude pictures and raped her over several months.
The 25-year-old, who teaches at the Kalol Primary Teachers’ College in Gujarat’s Mehsana district, consumed poison on Monday evening at a state transport bus depot, the police said on Tuesday.
A suicide note found at the victim’s residence said the teachers — Mukesh Patel, Dinesh Patel and Ketan Thakar, who taught at schools in nearby villages — had allegedly blackmailed her into having sex after clicking nude pictures of her.
“We have detained Thakar for questioning. Dinesh has also surrendered. The other accused, Mukesh, is still at large,” G.V. Barot, inspector of the Kadi police station, said.
The police declined to comment on whether they recovered any nude photographs.
“We are trying to find out how the three managed to get nude pictures of the woman. The case is under investigation,” said Mehsana SP Raju Bhargav.
“The suicide note states that Mukesh had helped her get a job in the college and subsequently started exploiting her some months ago,” Barot said.

{{/usCountry}}The victim was admitted to a private hospital in Mehsana, 70 km from Ahmedabad, and was unconscious late on Tuesday evening, the police said.
The victim’s father lodged a complaint of gangrape and harassment on the basis of the suicide note, the police said.
