Ghaziabad police launched series of mock-drills and training-sessions for women on Sunday and informed them about the ways to handle chain-snatchers, armed robbers and other petty criminals in market places and elsewhere.
Sessions were conducted at the busy market intersection in Navyug Market area in the city and also at Shipra Mall in Indirapuram on Sunday.
“The idea behind the session is to encourage women to come out strongly against attackers and give them a befitting reply,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Raghubir Lal.
During the sessions, a specially-trained team, from various disciplines of martial arts demonstrated ways to tackle attackers, after which women onlookers were asked to take part in the session.
“I learnt a lot from at the drill and when I engaged an attacker, I felt that it was very important to respond appropriately to prevent crime against us,” said Babita Saxena, a volunteer.
The session at Shipra Mall was attended by a number of women enthusiasts.
“There was a lot of enthusiasm among women to learn how to protect themselves. The art of self-defence has become indispensable in today’s times,” said Alka Aggarwal – the unarmed combat trainer deployed by Ghaziabad-Police.
