LeT commander among 3 terrorists killed in J&K

Three most wanted militants including a self-styled district commander of Lashker-e-Taiba outfit were killed in the Sopore town of Baramulla district.

In a joint operation conducted by Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, three most wanted militants including a self-styled district commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist outfit were killed in the Sopore town of Baramulla district in north Kashmir in a night-long gun battle.

According to the Defense Spokesman Col Hemant Juneja, three dreaded Lashkar terrorist were hiding in a house in Muslimpeer area of Sopore town when they cordoned off the area and asked the hiding terrorists to surrender. But the hiding terrorist started firing indiscriminately which was retaliated and in the ensuing gunfire, the three militants were killed.

"Two of the killed militants have been identified as Showkat Ahmed Najar Alias Munna Janwaari resident of Batpora Sopore and Ghulam Nabi Khuroo Alias Haji Alias Lamboo S/o Ghulam Mohammed Khuroo resident of Arampora Sopore.”

However the dead body of the third militant, believed to be a Pakistani national is being taken out from the debris of the house, he told HT over phone.

Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla range Viplub Kumar said, "it is a major success for the police and the security forces. Munna Janwaari had killed a dental surgeon Dr Mushtaq of Zachaldara on October 8 last year by mercilessly slitting his throat, after which his car was set on fire and all the cash was looted from his pocket and money was taken out from his ATM card"

The SSP further said that the killed militants were involved in firing incidents on Sopore Police camps and had also set a Beauty parlor in the area on fire who also fired upon a lady Misra Begum.

"These militants were also involved in indoctrinating young boys into terrorism and off late, had started outsourcing terrorist activities through school dropouts and other young boys. They also forced people into drugs and liquor addiction or other forms of intoxication to fulfill their nefarious plans and used their victims to carry out militancy related activities," he added.

On December 23 last year two foreign militants of Pakistan based Al Mansoorian militants outfit were killed in Dangerpora village of Sopore.

Few days back, Sopore police had also fished out a large consignment of arms and ammunition of LeT from river Jhelum, including 37 grenades, 10 magazines and 300 rounds of ammunition.
