The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would provide agriculture loans to farmers at one per cent rate of interest, if voted to power in the upcoming parliamentary elections, BJP national president Rajnath Singh said here on Saturday.

Rajnath Singh attended a rally organised at Gohana town of the district on the occasion of 65th birth anniversary of former BJP MP Kishan Singh Sangwan.

Addressing a rally, he said in the BJP-ruled states farmers were receiving agriculture loans at 2% rate of interest.

Comparing National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule with UPA rule, he said: "Farmers have been suffering in the Manmohan Singh's government as it has failed in implementing the Swaminathan Commission Report on Farmers."

He said former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had constituted the commission to look deep into farmer's problem and make recommendations based on it.

He alleged that on one side the UPA government is benefiting the rich class by waiving off loans to the tune of several lakh crores of the rich people, and reducing the subsidy amount given to farmers, which is taking toll on the financial health of farmers.
