Mahakoshal fails to attract industries despite offering 24-hr power supply

The state gives rebate of 15% to the industries in the power bills for consumption from 10pm to 6am.

The rebate was enhanced from 7.5% (2013-14) to 15% in the power tariff of 2014-15 after there was demand from the entrepreneurs. Similarly the state had reduced the penalty charged from industries for consumption for period from 6 pm to 10 pm from 15% to 7.5%.

The penalty was introduced in previous tariff plans to discourage the entrepreneurs from running units during peak hours from 6 pm to 10 pm. Generally during peak hours the power consumption shoots up in the domestic sector.

The power distribution companies have developed facilities to record the industrial consumption round-the-clock and accordingly the calculation of penalty and rebate is done. The industries are exempted from power cuts, MP Power Management Company managing director Manu Shrivastava told this newspaper adding the industrial tariff in the state is less compared to other states including neighbouring Maharashtra.

The entrepreneurs here feel there was vast possibility of setting up heavy industrial units in both the public and private sector due to availability of power round-the-clock.
