New Delhi:

The wife of murdered National Investigation Agency officer Mohammad Tanzeel Ahmed died on Wednesday morning after being critically injured in the April 3 attack that killed her husband.

Farzana Khatoon, 40, breathed her last at 10.45am at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre, where she was being treated in the intensive care unit.

“She was critical all through and on ventilatory support. We declared her dead around 10.45 am as that is when her heart stopped,” said a doctor.

Farzana was returning from a family function along with her two children and husband Ahmed, who was associated with the Pathankot terror attack probe, when they were shot at by two men on motorcycles.

While her husband died on the spot, Farzana was moved to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in a critical condition on Monday evening from Fortis Hospital in Noida’s Sector-62, where she was being treated for her bullet injuries in her abdomen and leg since the April 3 attack.

“There was some improvement in her condition initially, but she continued to remain critical throughout the nine days,” said a source.

Her last rites took place at Delhi’s Jamia Milia University Campus burial ground at 6.30pm, the source added.
