The likely sops may be for the Kanpur-Qasganj-Mathura and Qasganj-Bareilly-Lalkuan gauge conversion projects.

The 544.5 kilometre project that was sanctioned in 1997-98, began only last year. Besides, the Kanpur-Farukkhabad gauge conversion could be completed about two months back only. Notably, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had, at the time of flagging off a new train on the broad gauge line from Anwarganj, issued instructions to complete the same soon.

Singh will reach Kanpur early on Saturday morning. After inspecting Anwarganj railway station, he will leave for Qasganj. On Sunday, he will inspect the Qasganj-Mathura metre gauge line.

Singh, who took charge in the first week of August, was earlier posted as GM Chittaranjan Locomotive Works. Under him, the NE Railway has carried 13 per cent more passengers from April to August 10 this year (6.614 crore) as compared to the same period last year (5.865 crore).

Senior officials including divisional railway manager Izzatnagar and heads of various departments will also accompany the GM during the inspection.
