In light of the rising noise pollution in Patna, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday banned the use of hooters in vehicles, except in those of the Governor, Patna high court Chief Justice, fire engines and ambulances.
Kumar stressed on the measures at a home department review meeting to contain noise pollution by blaring hooters of vehicles belonging to VVIPSs and VIPs, and also directed putting in place measures to end unnecessary blaring of horns by regular vehicles.
“After the chief minister’s order, hooters from all VIPs vehicles would be removed,” the official said, adding that a notification would be issued soon.
The measure is also to check those misusing hooters under the guise of VIPs, including criminals, the official added.
The issue came to light following instances of VVIP and VIP cavalcades using sirens while crossing hospitals and schools.
Earlier this month, the Patna high court had sought a reply from the state government in response to a petition complaining “excessive noise pollution” in Patna.
The chief minister also reviewed the law and order situation in the state, and directed the police to check the rise in incidents of organized crime.
