Home minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday ruled out the resignation of any Union minister including Sushma Swaraj over the controversy involving former IPL chif Lalit Modi's travel papers.
"Our ministers do not have to resign. This is not their (Congress) government, this is the NDA government," Singh told reporters while announcing decisions taken by the Cabinet.
Singh was referring to Congress' demands for the resignation of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, accused of helping Modi get travel papers to Portugal, and Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who allegedly agreed to stand secret witness in the cricket czar's bid for immigration in Britain.
Raje's son Dushyant Singh, a BJP MP from Rajasthan too is facing an Enforcement Directorate probe over his hotel business deals with the controversial cricket administrator.
Lalit Modi, who has been living in the UK over the last few years, faces several cases of money laundering and forex violations connected to the Indian Premier League.
The opposition has threatened to disrupt the monsoon session of Parliament starting July 21 if Swaraj and Sushma do not resign by then.
Singh's confrontational tone comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is looking forward to push key reforms including the Land Acquisition Bill and the Goods and Services Tax bill.
