A public interest litigation was filed on Wednesday in the Patna High Court against imposition of President's rule in Bihar and praying for installation of a democratic government in the state at the earliest.
The PIL was filed by 'five democratic spirited citizens', including Chandrika Prasad, convenor of Communist Workers Platform, a socio-political organisation.
The PIL argued that the Governor should have given chance either to the single largest party (RJD) or largest pre-poll alliance (NDA) to form government and win trust vote on the floor of the House.
They further pleaded that if no party or combination was in position to form the government, instead of going for the President's rule, the caretaker government should have been allowed to function till formation of a popular government in the state.
The petitioners said the people had given mandate for formation of a democratic government in the state and not for imposition of President's rule and sought the court's directive for installation of a democratic government.
