In a first of its kind exercise after coming to power, the Narendra Modi government will soon undertake a review of decisions taken by the Cabinet and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) so far.
PM Modi has called a meeting of his entire council of ministers on January 27 for the review, which comes just ahead of the budget session beginning next month.
The meeting also comes against the backdrop of reports that the Prime Minister was not happy with the functioning of certain ministers.
The PM’s assessment about the functioning of these ministers may have a bearing on them when Modi decides to reshuffle his team. “This is a stock-taking exercise. This is an effort to identify the bottlenecks that are holding back the implementation of some crucial economic reforms,” a source privy to the matter said.
It is learnt that select ministries have also been asked to make a presentation before the Prime Minister on the status of the implementation of decisions taken by the cabinet and CCEA decisions.
“It may not be possible to go through each and every decision of the cabinet and the CCEA taken in a short span of time. So decisions relating to critical sectors would be looked into and ministries have been clubbed for making the presentation,” the source said.
