Bollywood producers on Saturaday said that their proposed boycott of multiplexes over revenue sharing from April four was a fight for equality and justice.
Addressing a press conference, Mukesh Bhatt, who heads the core group of film producers, said their demand for equal share in ticket sales was not unjustified.
“Our fight is on principles and we are seeking justice. It will continue till the end,” he said.
Producers like Vashu Bhagnani and Sajid Nadiadwala are considering rescheduling releases of their films ‘Kal Kisne Dekha Hai´ and ‘Kambhakth Ishq´ respectively slated for release in April and May.
They said from April four, producers would not screen new movies in theatres and if multiplex owners do not accept their demands, new films will be released only in single screen theatres.
“A decision to release the films in single screen theatres will be taken by the producers association and we will abide by it,” they said.
Bhatt said negotiations with multiplex owners were still on. “But the stalemate continues. I am optimistic,” he said.
