Pujara man of the U-19 World Cup

The Indian batsman was voted as the man of the tournament at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. India lost to Pakistan in the final.

India's Cheteshwar Pujara was voted as the man of the tournament at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

The right-handed opening batsman, who finished as the leading run-scorer with 349 runs in the 16-team event, polled nine votes to finish two points clear of Bangladesh duo captain Mushfiqur Rahim and all-rounder Mehrab Hossain.

Behind them was a pack of seven players on six points each, including Anwer Ali Khan of Pakistan, who joined the group after taking 5-35 against India to spearhead his side's 38-run win on Sunday.

Ahead of the final only Gaurav Dhiman of India and Riaz Kail of Pakistan were in a position to catch Pujara, but with both players failing in the summit clash Pujara emerged clear winner despite his second ball duck.

Pujara finished with a batting average of 116.33 and his run-tally included an unbeaten 129 against the West Indies in the Super League quarter-final, one of only five individual hundreds by batsmen in the 44 matches played.

He received a crystal trophy for his feat.

Dhiman was the player with the top strike-rate among the leading batsmen. He scored 222 runs at 125.42 runs per hundred balls.
