Noted pop singer Remo Fernandes has been chosen for the coveted `Karamveer Puraskar' this year conferred by ICONGO.
ICONGO, a Delhi-based confederation of NGOs, will be honouring the singer under the category "Artistes 4 Change" award during their two-day conclave scheduled in Delhi from November 25.
The singer has been on the forefront of various movements in Goa and had hit the headlines when he declined the state government award this year.
Remo has been vociferous on spending public money on festivals like International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Commenting on the award, he said, it gives a wonderful feeling because it is not given for my music's chart positions or sales figures; but rather for the socio-political contribution which the content of my music has made to the society.
"My songs have tried to give out positive messages about drug, AIDS, women exploitation, communalism and corruption; and having this aspect of it appreciated and awarded is particularly satisfying, much more so than receiving a film or music industry award, the singer told PTI.
"Appreciation is the greatest encouragement and motivation to do better, whether you are a sweeper or a company director. Everyone needs a pat on the back once in a while, and I see such a award as just that a pat on the back for a job well done, Remo said.
