Universally known as 'Kalu,' this wicket-keeper batsman has often been in and out of the team and is surely making his final comeback now.

Brought back into the side after the World Cup, presumably as much as anything to allow Kumar Sangakkara to concentrate on batting, Kaluwitharana's own strokeplay is at its most effective in a one-day innings.

His career highlights have been an unbeaten century on Test debut against Australia and a tremendous victorious World Cup campaign in 1996 when he opened the innings as a pinch-hitter to great effect.

His diminutive size - he makes most of his team-mates look tall - coupled with his mighty hitting has frequently astonished opponents.

Not the very best exponent behind the stumps, but then neither is Sangakkara. Sri Lanka has selected both men and toss one of them the gloves, crossing their fingers as they do so.
