COMMUNAL TENSION gripped Sahibganj locality under Rajghat police station and Mughal Tola area of Piprabar village under Ramkola police station of Kushinagar district of the division on Saturday .
The first incident took place when the members of a particular community started doing Puja near a Neem tree that stood on a piece of a land belonging to the members of another community. When the women started their puja, there was a resentment among the members of another community who raised slogans. Then the members of both the communities started throwing stones at one another. On receiving the news, the police rushed to the spot and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob.
In the aftermath of the incident, panic gripped the area and shopkeepers put up their shutters and the entire market wore a deserted look.
Although the police and the district administration brought the situation under control, tension prevailed in Khoonipur, Sahibganj and Nakhas where heavy police force was deployed.
Sources said around 50 women reached the place where the Neem tree was located with gas stove and frying pans to prepare puri before performing the Puja. They occupied around 50-metre and this triggered off the trouble.
State president of the Hindu Yuva Vahini Sunil Singh and BJP MP Yogi Adityanath rushed to the spot and mounted pressure on the district administration to ensure free and smooth performing of Puja.
A report from Kushinagar adds: A minor dispute between members of two communities in Mughal Tola of Piprabar village under Ramkola police station of Kushinagar district caused tension in the locality.
Around half a dozen people sustained injuries in the scuffle and members of a particular community set ablaze the crasher sugar cane and hut. Heavy police force was deployed and the situation was reported to be tense.

A rumour that a member of a particular community succumbed to his injuries sparked off violence further.
The police rushed to the spot and restored to lathicharge to quell the mob. Circle officer Rajesh Puri claimed that situation was well under control.
