Delhi climbed a step further on the culinary ladder as famous Mumbai seafood restaurant, Trishna, opened in Mehrauli in the Capital, on Thursday.
From huge crabs smothered in butter, pomfret done Hyderabadi style or spicy Kolhapuri prawns that could set your ear canals aflame — Trishna is known for its gastronomic delights that have been drawing not only Mumbaikars but travellers from across the world visiting the city. And now, the same authentic flavours come to Delhi.
“Although Delhi loves seafood, dining options for seafood are sparse. So, we thought why not give the city a taste of authentic coastal cuisine,” says restaurateur Shiv Karan Singh who jointly owns the Delhi extension of Trishna, along with designer Harmeet Bajaj and businessman Anish Chanana.
An old sprawling haweli in Mehrauli has been converted into the restaurant that has an old-meets-new feel to it. There’s a big courtyard in the center, and a glasshouse on the first level. To make sure that the restaurant stands true to its pedigree, Singh has flown in chefs from the Mumbai outlet to train the staff in Delhi. “We’re also sourcing a lot of ingredients from Mumbai to maintain the authenticity of flavours,” says Singh. The Delhi extension’s menu features all the Trishna bestsellers such as the Hyderabadi daal, king prawns cooked in tandoori style and Hyderabadi fish tikkas.
