As we take a step towards modernisation, we are actually falling prey to diseases, which once used to effect older generation. Doctors are getting more of such patients regularly.

According to Dr Rajesh Bawari, senior consultant, orthopedic, Max Healthcare, “Due to high deficiency of Vitamin D in young individuals, there have been more cases of osteoporosis. On an average, in a week, I come across 100 such patients who are either suffering from the disease or are developing symptoms.”

Dr T Sringari, senior consultant, department of orthopedics, Paras Hospitals, said, "Now, people between the age group of 35-45 years are more with the symptoms of osteoporosis like — mild pain in bones or muscles, particularly lower back or neck, loss of height and a stooped posture."

Dr Rajesh Verma, senior consultant, orthopedics, Artemis Health Institute, said, “Osteoporosis is often called a silent disease because bone loss occurs without symptoms. The first symptom is often a fracture. By that time a person loses 30% or more of his/her bone mass.”

Talking about remedial steps he said, “Our goal is to evaluate patients at an early stage to prevent the complications of osteoporosis, and treat them at the earliest.”
