UP: Man alleges harassment by police, commits suicide along with 2 kids

A 35-year-old man, who was allegedly harassed by police over his wife’s death, committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train along with his minor son and daughter in Mathura, authorities said on Tuesday.

A 35-year-old man, who was allegedly harassed by police over his wife’s death, committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train along with his minor son and daughter in Mathura, authorities said on Tuesday.

Police recovered Hemant Kumar’s body along with those of six-year-old Gokulesh and four-year-old Payal from the train tracks early on Monday. They also found a suicide note addressed to the district magistrates of Agra and Mathura.

Kumar, a resident of Amar Colony in Tulsi Nagar area of Mathura, said in his note that he was allegedly being harassed by the police, who suspected him of ‘being responsible’ his wife’s suicide.

In his suicide note, written in Hindi, Kumar said he had not ‘killed his wife’ and threw light on ‘that night’ when he had a fight with his wife. He said the fight was ‘not that big’ that it could have led her to commit suicide.

“I went away because I had taken her body down from the noose. Police do not trust my innocence. My children and I are committing suicide. None should be held responsible for this,” he wrote.

“Hemant Kumar’s wife committed suicide about six months ago in Mathura. However, no case was registered in Mathura and it is yet to be confirmed if any case was filed in Agra,” Yadav told HT.

Yadav said Kumar used to work in a factory in the city but left his job after his wife’s death.

“Since then, his whereabouts were unknown to his friends,” he added.
