The Shiv Sena has accused the central government of deliberately relocating important offices and projects from Mumbai and Maharashtra, to Gujarat and Delhi to compromise the importance of the state.
MP Gajanan Kirtikar who raised the issue in Parliament this week, cited the case of the National Security Guard and National Marine Police Academy, which was to come up at Palghar, and which is now being shifted to Dwarka in Gujarat.
Kirtikar also pointed out that the headquarters of Air India and the Trade Mark patent office, which has been in Mumbai for over four decades, are being shifted to Delhi. Ship breaking activity, too, is being moved from Mumbai port to Gujarat.
“The NSG and marine police academy was proposed to be set up after the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai. Palghar was picked as the location considering its proximity to Mumbai and the government acquired 305 acres of land there to set it up. Now, without any good reason, the Union home ministry has decided to shift it to Dwarka in Gujarat, which is at the end of the 720-km coastline,” Kirtikar said. He asked how an academy located at one end would be accessible from Gujarat to Kerala. “I have asked for an explanation and union home minister Rajnath Singh has said he will look into the issue”.
Kirtikar said there was a bigger conspiracy in this. “First they took Air India and now the Trade Mark patent office. We will continue to oppose such moves even if it means inviting the wrath of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Kirtikar told Hindustan Times.
