Calling political parties hypocritical, women rights groups have demanded more representation for women candidates in the coming elections.

Calling political parties hypocritical, women rights groups have demanded more representation for women candidates in the coming parliamentary elections.

In a statement issued by Joint Action Front of Women - a conglomerate of 70-odd women rights group - activists have expressed dissatisfaction over the low number of women being given tickets by political parties.

The front has also alleged that political parties are giving tickets to those women candidates whose chances of winning are remote.

"Most women candidates will lose because they have been given tickets without gauging their popularity among the masses," says coordinator of the front, Ranjana Kumari.
