Five women parliamentarians have lodged a complaint with the Lok Sabha speaker accusing a senior BJP MP of using abusive and sexist remarks against them in the Lok Sabha, media reports said on Tuesday.

The five MPs -- Ranjeet Ranjan, Sushmita Dev (both Congress), Supriya Sule (NCP), Arpita Ghosh (Trinamool Congress) and PK Sreemathi Teacher (CPI-M) – said that BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri abused them during the pandemonium in the house following the suspension of 25 Congress MPs on Monday, the reports added.

Ranjan, accompanied by the other MPs, lodged the complaint with Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan after the House was adjourned for the day.

Ranjan and Dev are among the 25 Congress MPs suspended by the speaker.

In their complaint, the women MPs said that earlier too Bidhuri had allegedly used sexist remarks against them.

“He has been abusive with me at least three to four times earlier as well. There was this instance during the budget speech discussion when I talked of the need to give benefits to single women and he turned around saying I should divorce my husband first and then such benefits can be given to me,” Ranjan was quoted as saying.

The BJP MP from Delhi’s Tughlaqabad South constituency, however, rejected the allegations.
