What started as a joke on WhatsApp has led to a group of female students from MGM medical college filing a complaint of molestation against eight classmates. The police detained them on Thursday.
Police said the offending joke was posted by a second year student on the WhatsApp group MGM Titans on March 7. The joke read,“Did you know? History of women’s day. Initially women day was planned on 6th March.. Women took 2 days to get ready. That’s how it got postponed to 8th march. Men’s day was also planned but as usual, they forgot the date!! (sic)”
The police said the girl students started an argument on the patriarchal approach of the joke and one of the accused circulated the WhatsApp status of one of the girls, the complainant. The status read, “Women only need 3.5 inches maximum pleasure …that’s called credit card.”
“The status was then copied and posted on the group by each of the other seven, in order to hurt the image of the complainant,” said a constable.
Dhruv Agarwal, one of the accused, said the incident was just a casual argument. “The girls have also used vulgar language. We have copy-pasted her status only,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}After the college got wind of the incident, senior professors rushed to the police station to pacify the girls. At one point, the police even had on record that a compromise was reached.
However, DIG Santosh Kumar Singh said the complaint wasn’t withdrawn.
