Rajasthan demands Rs 3,024 crore from Green Climate funds for water scheme

Rajasthan environment departments have stated that Mukhyamantri Jal Sawavlamban Abhiyan aims at enhancing climate resilience and adaptive capacity building of rural areas through conservation harvesting and management of water resources.

The state government has demanded Rs 3,024 crore from Union Ministry of Environment under Green Climate Fund for Phase-III and IV of Mukhyamantri Jal Sawavlamban Abhiyan (MJSA).

Under MJSA, the state will cover 21,000 villages in four years. (HT File)

In a proposal submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (GoI), the state environment departments have stated that MJSA aims at enhancing climate resilience and adaptive capacity building of rural areas through conservation harvesting and management of water resources.

Under MJSA, the state will cover 21,000 villages in four years. Aims and objectives of the program are on similar lines that of the concept of adaptation of climate change and are eligible for funding under the Green Climate fund.

Senior official of environment department, who did not wish to be named, proposed funding of a part of phase-III and IV of MJSA of Rs 3,024 crores as grant under green climate fund for 6,049 villages .

On Wednesday, the state cabinet approved phase-III of MJSA and decided to start it from December 9, 2017 in dessert areas, and from January 20, 2018 in other places. The work will be completed by June 30, 2018. In MJSY phase-III, five villages each from a panchayat samiti will be included.

In MJSA Phase-I and II, around 2,23,186 works has been completed in 33 districts of Rajasthan. Under MJSA, over 75 types of works have been undertaken such as afforestation, construction of anicut, contour continuous trench (CCT), deep CCT, crop demonstration, drip, earthen checkdams, farm ponds, individual beneficiary work under MNREGS, mini percolation tank and roof top water harvesting structure.
