Have you ever imagined riding a horse without reins? The concept has been introduced at the first natural horsemanship farm in the state, in Udaipur, where 15 pure line Marwari horses are being kept in the natural form and used on safari with just a rope around its neck.
It has become a new fad in horse safaris in the Udaipur region in the recent times. “Natural horsemanship (NHS) aims to establish a natural communication between the horse and the rider; very similar to how horses communicate with each other. NHS proved to be a fast and very efficient method of training for young horses, wild mustangs and the correction of difficult horses,” said Virendra Singh Boheda, the pioneer of natural horsemanship in the state.
Natural horsemanship means the training of a horse in a natural way refraining from all kinds of devises designed to suppress or hurt the horse.
Virendra Singh started the natural horsemanship farm with his German wife Ute Tonia Peterskovsky a few years back and has started to use the naturally trained horses in safaris from this year.
“Horses trained through natural horsemanship have become very popular with the foreign tourists coming for exploring the hidden tract of Aravalies in the Udaipur region. Then Marwari horse has its own qualities to connect directly with its rider. At end of the day it become a bonding between the tourist and the horse which they cherish for all their life,” Peterskovsky said.

“Marwari horses are the best pet and once they are trained in natural way, they become more of a companion on the safaris then just a mere ride. Safari with naturally bred horse is an outstanding experience and we are now planning to promote natural horsemanship among other Marwari horse breeders in the state also,” Virendra Singh said.
