With eye on hygiene, Rajasthan makes Padman tax free

Film is based on life of an activist, who revolutionised the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India.

Concerned over the lack of hygiene for women and girls in rural areas, chief minister Vasundhara Raje said that sanitary pad vending machines will be installed at schools and colleges.

Expressing gratitude to actor Akshay Kumar, for making the film Padman, with an objective of creating awareness for using sanitary pad, she said that the film will be made tax free in Rajasthan , so that the message of hygiene can reach more women.

Directed by R Balki, “Padman” also features Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles.

The movie is based on the real-life story of Tamil Nadu-based social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, who revolutionised the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary napkins machine.

Women of Rajasthan are capable of accepting all challenges and facing them, Raje said.

The CM, on Friday, was addressing hundreds of anganwadi workers, sahayikas, sathins and Asha sahayoginis who had come to Jaipur to express their gratitude. She said if women working in different fields use their complete strength and efficiency, then no one can stop Rajasthan from moving ahead.
