The intelligence wing of the central forces deployed in Purulia on Thursday morning learnt that top Maoist leaders like Ranjit Pal, Sachin and Rahul would be present in a meeting at Kaira village in Jharkhand.

The Jharkhand government is keeping vigil in a few villages along its border with West Bengal owing to a surge in Maoist activities. The Maoists on Thursday wanted to hold a meeting at Kaira village to know about the opinion of the villagers.

The intelligence wing of a central force deployed in Purulia came to know about the meeting well in advance. It informed the Purulia District Police top brass about the meeting. The Purulia District Police then briefed its Jharkhand counterparts.

The intelligence inputs also mentioned the presence of Ranjit Pal, Maoist Military Commander of Ayodhya Hills in the meeting.
