Maoist leader Gaur Chakraborty sent to police custody for 14 days

CPI (Maoist) spokesperson Gaur Chakraborty, arrested from central Kolkata last night, was remanded to police custody for 14 days by a city court today. Chakraborty was initially detained for interrogation as he came out of a private news channel's office at Park Street after giving an interview and was later arrested under section 20 of Unlawful Activities prevention Act.

CPI (Maoist) spokesperson Gaur Chakraborty, arrested from central Kolkata on Tuesday night, was remanded to police custody for 14 days by a Kolkata court today.

He was produced before the acting Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Chiranjibi Bhattacharya, who remanded him to police custody.

Chakraborty was initially detained for interrogation as he came out of a private news channel's office at Park Street after giving an interview and was later arrested under section 20 of Unlawful Activities prevention Act.

Chakraborty, originally a resident of Nadia, has some cases pending in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia, police said. Maoists were in the forefront of the tribal agitation at Lalgarh in West Midnapore district for the past few months.
