The Brunch round-up: The week and how it made us feel
  • Purring for this protégé
Choupette, the late Karl Lagerfeld’s pampered cat, is the face of luxury watch brand Hublot. What an honour... for them. The millionaire feline once hissed at Kim Kardashian when asked to walk the Met Gala red carpet with her. She’s endorsed pet products and been on magazine covers. Move over nepo babies, it’s the nepo kitty’s time to shine.
  • Not coupling up
The Summer I Turned Pretty is getting a third season. Why is it taking Belly three whole summers to decide between two brothers? And what happened to #SibsBeforeDibs? This is a never-ending vacay that we’re unwillingly invited to, with friends whom we low-key don’t like. Just pick one so we can get back to work, Belly.
  • Going to Australia
For the Friendly Orange Cat who hangs out near a grocery store in Haymarket, Sydney. He’s so famous, he has his own Google location. The reviews? Five stars. “Very polite and excellent customer service”, said one. “Allowed me to give him face scritches”, said another. The only tourist trap worth falling for.
  • Handing the best dad Oscar
Robert De Niro’s daughter Airyn has come out as transgender. His response was so wholesome. “I loved my son, now I love my daughter. What’s the big deal? I love all my children”. Not just acting, the man’s setting #DadGoals at 81. What a goodfella!
  • Relying on self-motivation
Who hasn’t been stalked and guilt-tripped by Duolingo? But if you’re hoping to impress the passive-aggressive owl someday, don’t bother. User @IAmShep completed the Spanish course after seven years. The reward? “F**king nothing,” he declared. Just a gif of the owl dancing with pom-poms. He admits that being able to express himself in a whole new language is good. Maybe that’s the real win?
  • Nursing dashed hopes
If you use too many em dashes while writing, beware. Your content could be flagged as AI-generated. Why? Because they’re apparently used in abundance by programs such as ChatGPT and Gemini to make text sound more refined and polished. AI is reading resumes, taking over our jobs. Now they’re coming for punctuation, too?
  • Peacing out
Sit this one out, wellness nerds. We’re fighting back against affirmations with nah-ffirmations to live a lighter life. Don’t want to go out one more day of the week? Just say Nah. Sick of relationship drama? End it. We’re not in control of our lives. Why seize the day when you can cease the day?
  • Watching Hogwarts slay
Dumbledore dropping it like it’s hot. McGonagall waacking and twerking. Harry and Ron shimmying and flossing. Dobby channelling Sabrina Carpenter in a towel. All while a basilisk roams free and Voldemort plots his next move. It’s not a fever dream. It’s the @SpiceyPotter series on Instagram. Just when you thought you’d outgrown Harry Potter, the series makes a fabulous and funny comeback.
