Dussehra is celebrated annually by Hindus all across the country. Also known as Vijayadashami, it falls on the tenth day of Navratri or the fifth day of Durga Puja. This year, it falls on October 24. The day marks the victory of good over evil. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama defeated Lanka King Ravana, and Goddess Durga gained victory over the demon Mahishasura. Dussehra also marks the beginning of Diwali preparations because it falls 20 days after Vijayadashami.
