Congress leader Navjot Singh Sindhu has damaged his vocal cords after speaking at 80 political rallies in 28 days while campaigning during the Lok Sabha election, his office has said.
Navjot Singh Sidhu’s office said the former cricketer has damaged his vocal cords because of the continuous speaking and that they have bled at times. He has been prescribed steroids and injections to help recover, his office added.
“Sidhu consulted physicians on early Sunday morning in Chandigarh, who advised two alternatives — either a balm coating over his damaged throat, which would require him not to speak for four days or a severe measure of anti-inflammatory injections and steroid medication along with complete rest for 48 hours,” an official release said.
The Punjab minister’s office said Sidhu insisted on campaigning in the last four days of the election campaign for the seventh and the final phase of Lok Sabha on May 19.
“He chose anti-inflammatory injections and steroids to rest for just two days because balm coating would have hampered his ability to speak for the next four days. At the moment Sidhu is under medication and in the process of a quick recovery to return to campaigning at the earliest,” the statement read.

{{/usCountry}}Navjot Singh Sidhu, one of the star campaigners of the Congress party, is scheduled to address public meetings in Bihar’s Patna Sahib on May 14, Ponta Sahib in Bilaspur and Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh on May 15.
He would be campaigning in Madhya Pradesh on the last two days on May 16 and May 17.
In December last year, the Congress leader was advised bed rest for five days after an “exhaustive” 17-day election campaign injured his vocal cords. Sidhu had addressed more than 70 back-to-back public meetings and doctors told him he was “on the verge of losing his voice”.
