Lok Sabha election 2019: Will vote for those who have worked, says Delhi’s oldest voter at 111 years

According to Bachan Singh’s youngest son Jasbeer Singh, his father cycled to the polling booth to cast his vote till the last assembly election held in Delhi in 2015.

Bachan Singh has never missed an opportunity to cast his ballot since 1951 and on Sunday Delhi’s oldest voter at 111 years turned up at a polling station in Tilak Nagar area as usual.

This time, Bachan Singh reached the booth in Sant Garh area in a car and was carried inside in a chair.

“I will vote for those who worked for us,” he said, according to news agency PTI.

According to Bachan Singh’s youngest son Jasbeer Singh, his father cycled to the polling booth to cast his vote till the last assembly election held in Delhi in 2015. But a paralysis attack around three months ago has forced Bachan Singh to the bed.

“He never needed any help. He cooked for himself and spent most of the time doing seva in a gurdwara,” Jasbeer said while speaking to PTI.

Jasbeer Singh said his father doesn’t know about the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and that Arvind Kejriwal is the chief minister of Delhi.

“He doesn’t even know that the Aam Aadmi Party exists. For him, every election has been a contest between the BJP and the Congress,” the 63-year-old said.

All the seven parliamentary constituencies in the national capital are polling on Sunday as 1.43 crore people are expected to vote in a high-stakes triangular fight. The votes will be counted on May 23.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is looking to retain all the seats to won in 2014, the ruling AAP is trying to make its debut in the Lower House from the Capital and the Congress wants to regain its lost base.
