The fifth member of the Sharad Pawar family is now ready to enter politics. After the recent debut of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar’s grandnephew Parth in the Lok Sabha elections, Pawar’s grandson is ready to take the plunge in the state assembly elections later this year.
Rohit Pawar (34), grandson of Sharad Pawar’s elder brother Appasaheb Pawar, announced his intention to contest the state assembly election at a media interaction on Saturday.
Rohit is the son of Rajendra and Sunanda Pawar, well-known for organising the Bhimtadi Jatra, an immensely popular annual event of rural NGOs.
Rohit was interacting with media persons while felicitating meritorious students in competitive exams.
Already a member of the Pune Zilla Parishad, he has now expressed his intention to contest the assembly elections.
Rohit is engaged in the sugar industry and other agro-industries. Rajendra Pawar is associated with the Baramati Krushi Vikas Pratishthan, a society for agro development.
While Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule and nephew Ajit Pawar have been in politics for a number of years, his grandnephew Parth Pawar marked his debut by contesting the Lok Sabha seat from the Maval constituency in Pune district.
“I am in the business for the last 12 years and have a good connect at the grassroots level. I am also a Pune Zilla Parishad member and am ready to contest elections from any constituency suggested by my party,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Rohit said he began preparations since the last one year and has been visiting the Hadapsar Lok Sabha constituency in Pune city and Jamkhed constituency in Ahmednagar district. He hinted that he would contest from either of these assembly constituencies.
He said that he had campaigned for Parth in Maval and although Parth got trolled for his first speech, he made up within a short time and has improved lot. “Parth will definitely win and develop the constituency,” he said.
