To encourage citizens to cast their vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on May 12, the Gurugram district administration, on Sunday, set up ‘sabeels’, or drinking water stations where citizens can quench their thirst and get motivated to exercise the right to their franchise in the run up to the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 12.

District administration officials manned the sabeels to speak with citizens about the importance of voting. Officers also took the opportunity to help citizens address any queries they may have had about the voting process.

According to a statement issued by district administration, the sabeels drew large crowds of people, especially at Huda City Centre, the railway station and the interstate bus stand in Sector 10. Sabeels were also set up outside the Kingdom of Dreams, Sohna grain market and outside the deputy commissioner’s office at Vikas Sadan, besides more locations in all four of the district’s constituencies.

Sub-divisional magistrate (Gurugram north) Jitendra Gandhi said, “The importance and gravity of every vote must be conveyed to each and every citizen. Voting is the same as nation-building, and we are here today to encourage citizens to take part in this festival of democracy.”

“Voting for your own interests is akin to voting for national interest,” Gandhi said.
