Lok Sabha Elections 2019: No Priyanka Gandhi from Varanasi seat ‘wise decision of Congress’, say locals

The end of suspense over Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s chances of contesting Lok Sabha polls from Varanasi was something many participants talked prominently during PM Modi’s road show in the temple town on Thursday.

Some of them praised the Congress’s decision to not field Priyanka Gandhi against the PM.

“This is very good decision because Kashi is the stronghold of Modi. Everyone knows the result at this seat. See the huge crowd in the road show. People are waiting for Modi despite extremely hot weather,” said Manoj Rai, a chemist who runs medical store in Lanka.

Dheerendra Singh, another local who participated in the PM road show, said, “Priyanka Gandhi made a late entry into active politics. It is already too late. The Congress has taken a very wise decision. If it wants to field her from Varanasi, the party should first prepare a ground for it here.”

In Madanpura, youths were seen discussing the fielding of Ajay Rai as the Congress’s candidate from Varanasi. “In the electoral debut, Congress should choose a safe seat for Priyanka Gandhi from where her victory could be ensured.
