The phase 6 of Lok sabha elections 2019 on May 12 is witnessing voting in 59 seats across seven states, among them being the national capital where fates of candidates on all seven seats will be sealed in the EVMs.Voting is taking place in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, Bihar , Haryana, and Jharkhand. ‘Register complaint against BJP’s Bharati Ghosh’: Poll panel directs police

The Election Commission has directed the police to register a complaint against BJP candidate Bharati Ghosh for coming within 100 metres of booths (206 and 207 number booths in Keshpur) with security men carrying arms.

On Sunday morning, Ghosh went to these booths after getting reports that her polling agent could not enter the booth since TMC supporters were resisting him.

Eventually, Ghosh had to return after trying fruitlessly to take him into the booth. She was heckled by TMC women supporters when she and her agent tried to enter the booth.

People of Bengal’s Jhargram village boycott polls

The people of Ramchandrapur village under Bengal’s Jhargram constituency did not cast a single vote till 1:30 pm to protest against problems in supply of drinking water in the village and the condition of local roads.

The village, about 170 km to the west of Kolkata, has one booth that has 740 voters.

This is the first time that the voters of a booth boycott polls in Bengal in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“There are big holes in the road (that is not metalled), and we can’t remember when was the last time the road was repaired. We also depend on wells for supply of drinking water,” alleged villager Dilip Patar.

“The supply of electricity is erratic too. We have long been demanding proper supply of water and electricity, and also that the road should be repaired,” said Sabita Mahato, another villager.

EVM glitches reported in Delhi

Complaints about malfunctioning EVMs poured in from several places of the national capital on Sunday where voting is underway.

Adarsh Gupta, a resident of Matia Mahal area, claimed that at polling booth number 84, 85 and 86, electronic voting machines were initially not working in the morning.

Aam Aadmi Party’s Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti alleged that EVMs at booths number -- 116,117 and 122 -- were not functioning.

“EVM in booth 132, Hauzrani is showing 50 votes without anyone casting any vote in the machine n EVMs at booths 116,117, 122 in Malviya nagar not functioning,” Bharti tweeted.

However, there was no immediate reaction from the chief electoral office, reported news agency PTI.

Bharati Ghosh’s security men open fire to disperse those who came to attack her

The security men of Bharati Ghosh, who are from the CISF, allegedly opened fire to disperse some people, who came to attack her when she went to a booth in Dogachia area.

“One person, Bakhtiar Khan, was injured when Bharati Ghosh’s security guards opened fire. He has been taken to a hospital,” alleged Sanjay Pan, Keshpur block president of Keshpur.

Officials ensure poll preparedness

Polling preparation was underway at polling station number 20-21 of the Sirsa parliamentary constituency. Voting will be held for 10 parliamentary constituencies in Haryana today.

Officials in Madhya Pradesh too were seen ensuring poll preparedness at polling station number 152/230 in Bhopal parliamentary constituency. Congress’ Digvijaya Singh and BJP’s Pragya Singh Thakur are contesting from this constituency.
