Except for a few stray incidents of altercation among party workers, and voters with security personnel, no incidents of violence were reported during voting for the seven Lok Sabha seats on Sunday in Delhi, the police said. The voting for the seven constituencies across the city in 13,819 polling stations concluded peacefully amid tight security arrangements by Delhi Police and paramilitary forces.
Throughout the day, the police received a total of 337 poll-related distress calls at the control room. The calls were not serious or heinous, so there was no FIR (first information report) filed, the police said.
“The nature of calls primarily ranged from needing more tables to canvassing inside restricted areas and quarrels among party workers as well as electronic voting machine glitches, etc. However, no serious complaint was reported. All the 337 polling-related calls were promptly attended to,” a statement issued by the Delhi Police read.
In the afternoon, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporter filed a complaint at the Ghazipur police station, alleging he was slapped by Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Kondli MLA Manoj Kumar after the legislator saw him wearing a saffron “Namo-again” t-shirt and raising pro-BJP slogans at a polling station.
The AAP legislator, however, denied it, and said, “The man was drunk, shouting slogans and passing obscene remarks at our party’s women workers, when they stopped him. The women informed me of this. Since I was nearby, I reached there and tried to resolve the issue. He punched me and broke my phone. I have also filed a complaint.”

{{/usCountry}}In another incident, a woman voter at a polling station in east Delhi’s Jagatpuri allegedly created a ruckus and manhandled a woman constable after she was informed that her name was not on the booth’s voters list. The woman was removed and briefly detained at Jagatpuri police station.
“The woman insisted on entering the polling station despite being told that her name was not there in the voters list. She was asked to visit the other polling station and see if her name was there. But she was adamant and had a scuffle with our staff. The issue was later resolved and no complaint was filed,” Meghna Yadav, DCP (Shahdara), said.
