While senior government officials were still tight-lipped over the matter, sources confirmed that a decision in principle had been taken to hand over the project to the SPA which enjoys the status of a deemed university.

“We are still working out the modalities of the agreement to appoint them as the consultant for the project. Landscape experts from School of Planning and Architecture have visited the site and we have asked them to submit an offer and the estimated time required for drafting a detailed project report,” said a senior official requesting anonymity.

Incidentally, the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Park in Gomti Nagar too was developed by an School of Planning and Architecture expert, Mohd Shaheer, who was then the head of its landscape wing.

Apart from water bodies and fountains, the park would have recreational facilities and public amenities, he said, adding that the concept plan would soon be given a final shape by the consultant. “The entire project is expected to take about a year-and-a-half before it can be formally thrown open to the public,” he added.
