Questions have been raised over the ridership of Lucknow Metro since the day the service was launched on the 8-km Transport Nagar-Charbagh route. But LMRC MD Kumar Keshav said Metro has had overwhelming response from people here – much better than what metro in Delhi saw after its launch.
He said Lucknow Metro crossed a cumulative ridership of 10 lakh in just 70 days of its commercial operations since September 6, 2017. According to Keshav, this was a remarkable figure for any Metro during its initial days.
Contrary to impressions among people who sometimes see the Metro train running empty, the ridership was 4.8 lakh in September 2017, 4 lakh in October and 3 lakh in November and December. In January, February, March and April the figure remained around 3 lakh.
“Every day, around 10,000 people travel in Metro, which is good response – better than other Metros running in the country. The ridership is expected to touch around 3 lakh in a day when the route from Amausi airport to Munshipulia will be thrown open for public,” said Kumar Keshav.
“Work on the section from Charbagh to Munshipulia is expected to be completed by March 2019,” he added.

{{/usCountry}}Keshav said, “Lucknow Metro has organised more than 100 visits for the promotion of Lucknow Metro among locals. Many school children, members of social institutions, old age homes, Women Power Line, para foundation, PCS trainees, bureaucrats and judicial trainees have visited Lucknow Metro. Special care is extended to all the differently-abled Metro commuters.”
The LMRC has also conducted tours for special kids and orphans who could not have boarded the Metro otherwise, he added.
Campaigns like Dos and Don’ts in Metro and Emergency Evacuation were also launched.
Literature on safe journey is regularly distributed to the commuters at all Metro stations, he said.
