Unmarried granddaughters to get right over ancestral land in Uttar Pradesh

The Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, which proposes amendments to give rights over ancestral property to maiden granddaughters who have lost their fathers, will be tabled in the budget session of the UP legislature.

The Uttar Pradesh government is all set to introduce a bill giving ancestral property rights to unmarried granddaughters who have lost their fathers.

The Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill will be tabled in the budget session of the Uttar Pradesh legislature, commencing Thursday.

“The UP Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, 2018, will be introduced in the assembly session (commencing tomorrow). In this, amendments have been made in clauses 108 and 110 in the original act (Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006) to give rights over ancestral land to granddaughters who have lost their father,” an official spokesperson said here.

The proposal regarding the amendment was approved by the state cabinet at its meeting chaired by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday.
